Phi Sigma Sigmas national philanthropy is the National Kidney Foundation.
This philanthropy was adopted in 1971 because kidney disease was the leading cause of death in women at that time.
In support of our national philanthropy, the Beta Rho chapter hosts a Rock-a-thon every year to raise awareness and funds for the NKF.
Last year we raised a significant amount of money for the cause. In 2006, Beta Rho receieved a philanthropy award from Phi Sigma Sigma National Headquarters for having the highest philanthropic donation per sister.
Nationally, Phi Sigma Sigma sisters everywhere participate and volunteer in the NKFs Transplant Games. In July 2008, five of the Beta Rho sisters traveled to Pittsburgh to volunteer. Meeting the athletes and donors was a great experience and more sisters plan to return to next years Games!
Beta Rho has recently adopted a local philanthropy in the past year. We are proud to announce the Ronald McDonald House as our new local cause, located only blocks away at 39th & Chesnut.
The main focus of the McDonald House is providing families who have children in local hospitals, with a home away from home. Special thanks to our sister, for introducing us to this cause and allowing us the opportunity to volunteer there frequently.
